You've heard a lot about the Standard Model and the pieces are hopefully
beginning to fall into place. However, even a thorough understanding of
the Standard Model is not the end of the story but the beginning. By
exploring the structure and details of the Standard Model we encounter new
questions. Why do the most fundamental particles have the particular
masses we observe? Why aren't they all symmetric? How is the mass of a
particle related to the masses of its constituents? Is there any other way
of organizing the Standard Model?
The activities in this project will elucidate but not answer our
questions. The Standard Model tells us how particles behave but not
necessarily why they do so. The conversation is only beginning. . . .
