In a small group make two lists on a large sheet of paper:You need to know these before you go further:
- What you think you know about detection of particles.
- Questions that you have about detection of particles, or ideas that you aren't sure about.
- What are two characteristics of a particle that you can determine from its track in a magnetic field? Check the Helmholz coil apparatus or OnScreen software.
- What kind(s) of particle(s) is/are very difficult or impossible to detect? Why?
- How can you find the mass of a particle from its tracks in a magnetic field if you know its energy/momentum? What is the mathematical relationship? Remember what you learned about this in the basic project and in OnScreen.
