Ben (Montini Catholic High School) and Konrad (Naperville North High School)

This summer, two of the QuarkNet students decided to search for hypervelocity stars. They started their research by following in the footsteps of Dr. Warren R. Brown, an astronomer at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory in Massachusetts. Brown discoverd the first hypervelocity star (HVS) and also discoverd 16 additional HVSs since then.

After taking a look at what Brown did to find these HVCs QuarkNet students Ben & Konrad did some searching of their own and discovered two stars that could potentially be HVSs. The following presentation highlights their findings and shows some of the steps that they took to find these stars.
