Finding Evidence for W: Threshold Momenta

We want to identify or "tag" W events. We must find the threshold momentum that the electron and neutrino need to be a signature for a W event. We expect each particle to have half of the momentum of the W mass.

Remember the detector cannot detect a neutrino. We "tag" the W events from the electron momentum. However, the detector cannot detect momenta along the beam pipe. We can only find the missing momentum in a 2-dimensional x-y plane perpendicular to the beam pipe (called the "transverse" plane").
