Research Experience for Teachers (RET) |
- Organization: National Science Foundation (NSF)
- Deadline: NA
- Limitations: Institution must have a REU grant or be applying for one
- Amount varies depending on needs. An institution can apply for up to 2 months of a teacher's annualized salary for as many teachers as necessary.
- Available annually
- The institution MUST have a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) grant or must be applying for an REU grant along with the RET grant. The RET request (as supplement or as part of the proposal) should address the following points. The request should describe the plan for teacher activities and the nature of involvement with the REU site program. One special goal of this involvement should be to incorporate the outcome of the RET experience into the teachers' classroom activities.
If candidate teachers have been identified, please include a discussion of the basis for selection and a brief biographical sketch. If candidates have not been identified, please include a discussion of the plan for recruitment and selection of teacher participants. The PI's experience in involving teachers in research or previous collaborative work with teachers should also be described.
Funding for these supplements may include up to two months of the teacher's annualized salary. While participants in the RET activity are intended to be those with teaching credentials and professional experience, we also encourage the participation of pre-service teachers, when opportunity allows, within the normal REU program. For those individuals, the
REU support guidelines shall apply. As with all REU awards, indirect costs are not allowed; an administrative allowance limited to 25% of the teacher stipend support is permitted.
