Photomultiplier tubes typically have between 10 to 12 dynodes. As you can imagine, a small change in supply voltage would cause a very large change in the total number of electrons emitted, the gain, per incident photon. The photomultiplier tube above has ten dynodes and an adjustable voltage supply. Move your cursor over the various voltages to adjust the supply potential. As you adjust the voltage supply, the gain will be recorded and added to the plot to the right.
