In order to enhance the capacity of QuarkNet staff to deliver professional development, we have created a cadre of teacher-leaders to assist in the planning and delivery of a variety of professional development activities for other QuarkNet teachers. Teachers participated in a leadership program including an initial intensive one-week workshop in summer 2007 with a follow-on program of shorter in-person sessions and regular e-communication discussions. The cohort informs its ongoing design process with active evaluation of the activities. We disseminate "lessons learned" in several ways: sharing informally with other QuarkNet centers, submitting to peer-reviewed publications and attending conferences.
