Quarknet is funded on a cost-sharing basis. The national collaboration has grants from NSF and DOE that support common costs. However, the grants do NOT provide all program costs. Centers will need to seek support from other sources for some local costs.Funders include the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy and participating research groups and experimentsATLAS, CMS, CDF and DZERO.
Year 1 - At each site during the first year two teachers will join the project.
Grant support includes $10,000 per teacher:

Year 2 - During the second year on average 10 new teachers will join each group
bringing the total to 12 at each site. Grant support includes $1,750 per teacher:

Graduate Credit - QuarkNet offers optional graduate credit in natural science and mathematics through Aurora
University, Aurora, IL with whom Fermilab has an ongoing agreement. The current cost is $75
per credit hour paid by the enrolling student.
QuarkNet teachers must choose between "QuarkNet Teacher Institute II" and "QuarkNet Teacher Institute III." |
For centers supported by Notre Dame/NSF, the QuarkNet fiscal year is June 1 to May 31.For centers funded by Fermilab/DOE, the QuarkNet fiscal year follows the DOE fiscal year October 1 to September 30.
